Web Cam Audio And Cortana
Aug 11, 2015I have a Dell XPS 8100 desk top. I use a Logitech web cam with mic for face chat and skype. Will this set up work with Cortana, as far as speaking to and getting answers from her?

View 1 RepliesMy PC is the HP ENVY TouchSmart M7-J120DX with Beats Audio quad speakers and two subwoofers. After running a clean installation of Windows 10, my volume icon had an error "no audio device output" / IDT High Definition Audio Codec. The troubleshooting option did nothing. I uninstalled my audio device, and restarted my pc. My sound is back, but it seems that the middle speakers are the only ones working. My volume icon and sound device now is labeled "High Definition Audio Device" which now sounds substandard, just like those cheap tinny speakers you can find at the dollar store. How to recover my original great-sounding original speakers!
View 4 Repliesever since I got windows 10 my maxx audio doesn't work and now just says "MaxxAudio processes internal speakers output only"
View 1 RepliesI don't know if this started since Windows 10, but I use headphones for PC sound and if I go outside to smoke a cigarette or something I take my headphones with me so I can listen to music from my phone. When I come back and replug my headphones into my PC, audio no longer works in games, FL studio, YouTube videos, etc. Until I restart the entire program. Systemsounds work fine after replugging but audio in anything other than Windows don't
View 1 RepliesI already have a Microsoft account that I've been using for some months with OneDrive. When I start Cortana it requires me to log into that account. I do so, but then it pops up a screen telling me to "Enter your old password one last time", and then "From here on out, you'll unlock this device using the password or PIN you just set up.
Before we can say goodbye to your local password, you need to provide it one last time." It then gives me another password box and says "(leave blank if none)".
But it won't let me leave it blank, and when I re-enter my Microsoft account password, it tells me its incorrect...even though it works fine with OneDrive. What PIN it refers to, nor what it is trying to accomplish...but it has stopped me trying out Cortana.
Don't use her very often yet. Mostly ok desktop since I have a gaming headset. Don't want to use it on laptop though. Haven't been able to get it to work with webcam mic. Is it even possible ?
View 1 RepliesCortana does not function
View 4 RepliesI have successfully set up Cortana on two user accounts, however when I now try to set Cortana up on a user account I get stuck in a loop. I get the screen up that says "One last thing sign in with Microsoft account. Enter old password one last time". I do this then I am shown "That way, I can keep track of what you want me to know".Then I get " Welcome back lets pick up where we left off".
Then it just goes round in a never ending loop. I have created new user accounts to see if the problem was with existing accounts, but still no joy.Looking for answers to the problem on the internet, I have seen it suggested that something can be done by editing the registry, but I do not feel confident to mess about with the registry.I had thought resetting the computer, but am worried that I may not get Cortana to work on any accounts (it is working on two accounts at the moment)
I thought that Microsoft added the ability to text using Cortana but I cant get her to no matter what.
View 1 RepliesThis actually started back in build 9926. The left third of my screen shattered, so I moved the taskbar over to the right edge, and as soon as I did Cortana just stopped working. Her symbol changed to the generic search magnifying glass, she won't open when prompted, and neither will her settings in the settings app.
View 1 RepliesI am in the UK. I have changed the region, language, keyboard and system locale all to US English and it still flippin doesn't work. Says Cortana is not available for your market. What am I doing wrong? Am on latest build on Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet.
View 1 RepliesI used the method of changing my region to the US but Cortana is still not working. Also an old windows file called "Windows.old" which I want to delete but is says that it need permission from me to delete it , I use a script to take control of the file but it won't let me delete it.
View 1 RepliesI am not a fan of Cortana because of the privacy concerns and I prefer Braina assistant. I have already disabled Cortana on my laptop by following this tutorial : [URL]. How can I remove Cortana completely from my laptop?
View 4 RepliesMicrosoft states that Cortana is available in the UK. My region and language (including input) are set to UK, which is where I currently am, and yet I am unable to enable Cortana. In the 'Cortana and search settings', I get the message "Cortana isn't supported in the region and language you've selected". I have configured my microphone for speech input.
View 1 RepliesMy system time is correct (Central Time Zone + Daylight Savings Time). Cortana is displaying UTC -4 - it should be UTC -5. How do I correct?
View 3 RepliesI had recently encountered a strange problem: time by time I am getting logged off from OneDrive and Cortana. I just turn on my PC and a OneDrive greeting window appears, welcoming me to log in and set up sync, just like I never did it before. The same problem with Cortana - she just randomly turn off and I have to set her up (entering my name, adding interests, weather e.t.c.).
View 9 RepliesI'm loving Windows 10 and I really want to enable Cortana for all the voice recognition goodness but when I configure it I get a message that says my "Microsoft ID will now become my signon" or something like that.I leave the notebook powered on all day and when I walk away from the desk I lock the screen. Waking it up has a simple 4 digit password, very quick and easy. I must lock the screen 20x a day.Am I reading things correctly? If I enable Cortana I will lose my 4 digit passcode and every time I want to unlock the screen I will have to type in a lengthy email password with capital letters and digits and such?
View 3 RepliesSo I thought I'd give Cortana a try since I can turn it off again if I don't want it, however I get to the point where it makes me login, I enter my email address and password and then it takes me to the next step where it tells me something like you need to enter your current password just one more time.
I enter the same password one last time and it tells me it's wrong.
I go through it all over again and reset my password and try again, go though the first login and get to the second stage where it asks me to enter my password one "last" time, and I do and it tells me it's wrong again.
Try a third time, this time leaving the password blank on the 2nd step and still fails.
Edit: I know the password is correct as I've used it to login to live this morning, so not sure why it's not accepting it in the 2nd stage of the Cortana setup.
My problem is exactly as it says in the title, Cortana isn't starting up with windows 10, I can't use the speech or search functionality. The bar is still there, but I can't type anything into it, I click on the microphone icon and nothing happens, ''hey Cortana'' isn't working at all.
View 1 Repliesjust done a fresh install with the latest iso available. here it is the problem using search/cortana... (honestly i didn't care in the past, so i don't it's a normal beahaviour) -loggin in as administrator i can use the search and find settings like "system restore" or "personalize" -loggin in as limited user, no matter if local account or microsoft account, i can't search for settings and i get the message "incomplete" on top of the window... but all documents, images, start menu entries, etc. are showed perfectly. i googled around, but i couldn't find what happens to me. solutions are for completely broken search service. even create a new account or recreate the index didn't work.. is it normal for limited users?!? bug?!? i don't want reinstall again
View 5 RepliesI have disabled Cortana but it still runs in the background.
And can it be disabled completely ?
I've been using Windows 10 set up exactly as I wanted it since my original installation. Today I wanted to set up Cortana. It was suggested that I use a PIN instead of a password. I thought this was just for Cortana so I agreed. Now my whole system has been changed. I have to log in with my Microsoft account which I never had to do and don't want to do. How can I get back to my original name with no long-in at startup.
View 9 RepliesWell, When I set a location based reminder in PC in cortana, does it remind me when I take my phone there? I use both the OS with my same hotmail id.
Or is it like PC based reminders, will be noted only when you take your pc to that location?
So I was excited to get Windows 10 today and try out Cortana. I do have a Lumia 1020 and I do use Cortana frequently. I wanted to see how fast she could sync between PC and phone. I asked Cortana to remind me to buy milk in five minutes. After five minutes she did remind me, but only on PC. I checked my phone and there were no new reminders. Maybe I need to log out of PC???
View 5 RepliesI cannot get any audio from Cortana. If I remember correctly, "Hey Cortana" would initiate a chime, and asking about weather would prompt her to audibly tell me the weather (albeit only in San Fransico). It worked for me in build 9926, but it has not worked in 10041 nor in 10049.
View 2 RepliesSo, I updated to the November update, I have windows 10 mobile running on my ICON... and I can't figure out how to send a text from Cortana on my Surface to other people. I've tried signing up for the fast ring insider view on my surface, and no updates there. Cortana keeps saying she can only send text messages from a phone.
