I have just installed Windows 10 now when the mains charger is plugged in the screen remains black, switch the charger off screen on, I have checked power settings etc seems ok

View 2 RepliesSince upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 8.2 I cannot use my laptop whenever I plug the charger in. I used to think that the screen went blank but today I noticed that it dimmed so much it almost was blank but not quite. If I unplug my charger, the screen returns to normal. Is this a setting I can alter or is it a bug? It is very frustrating that I cannot use my laptop if it is connected to the mains.
View 6 RepliesI set my screen to turn off after ten minutes but it doesn't shut off. Today I read somewhere that it could be because I have a USB hub plugged in. Sure enough I unplugged the Hub and my screen shuts down as I have set it up to do. I need what is plugged into my hub and it is a real hassle to reboot my machine when I plug the Hub back in. I have also noticed one more thing and that is that programs that run in the back ground for instance Seti @ Home slows way down since the screen stays on.
View 4 Repliesyesterday i updated windows to latest preview.. install got struck in the middle and then after few hours it suddenly completed.
then it asked to restart as usual, but didnt complete the process. it went to blue screen.
now it only restarting to bluescreen only i plugged in.. no response.. cant even hard reset.
My laptop makes an annoying beeping noise when plugging in the charger or removing it. In Windows 7/8, if you went to your speaker properties and then levels, you could mute PC speaker and that took care of it. Don't see that option anymore.
View 9 RepliesJust since my Win 10 upgrade, if I plug in the charger the screen goes black. Then I unplug, it comes back on! I have played with the power settings, not much to rave about there, except one thing I barely caught a glimpse of. In the Additional power settings, at the bottom is the brightness control. When I plug in the charger, the slider goes all the way to the right. Is that not backwards? Anyway, what will fix this so it can be posted somewhere (like here) so people like me can find it.

Is this a driver problem with windows 10? However, before the black screen appears the new start button and screen appears as the windows 10
View 1 RepliesI did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.
It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?
The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.
Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge with an Intel I5 processor, 64 bit with no hardware upgrades (stock). I had accidentally stepped on the screen (fell off my lap and then crunch) which was mangled beyond repair, so I have been using it similar to a tower, with a VGA and/or HDMI connected monitor (my HDMI cable went bad, I picked up a new cable but hadn't hooked it up to the second monitor. I started my free upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to 10 last night. I woke up to the black screen/mouse pointer issue which is what brought me to this thread. I tried the recommended fix:
1. Hit ctrl, type in password and enter
2. Win Key + P + Down Arrow. (Win Key + P only seems to do the same thing)
This brought up options to
1. Disconnect projector (Tried this and lost connection to the VGA even after reboot)
2. Duplicate (Screen is still black with mouse cursor, but I saw a little bit of red and blue pixels at the bottom where the task bar should be until I disconnected and re-connected the VGA, then it was back to black screen and cursor)
3. Extend (still black screen and cursor)
4. Connect Projector (still black screen and cursor)
I'm not sure what to do. I must have some OS installed, because I am able to also perform these operations from my USB Keyboard/Mouse. I'm just not sure how to get Windows back on my VGA connection (I haven't tried HDMI because I did not have it connected when I ran the update.) I thought Duplicate displays would do the trick, but apparently not. For as beat up as the laptop is on the outside, the hardware performs fine. I also have a 2nd laptop (work laptop, also a Lenovo W541) that I can use if any solution involves downloading something bootable.
When I boot up my computer (to windows 10). It will do the Asus splash screen then instead of going straight to windows if does this black screen with the kinda terminal thing (with no writing/text) then goes on to windows. Does this affect my computer?
View 1 RepliesI needed to delete the first profile that had been set up as the person had left the charity I work with. I followed the directions to delete the user. All fine except the MS login has gone but the local id remains and is the first profile on the login screen. I have to skip it to get to the live user profiles. Is this a bug. I have run Delprof2. Nothing is found for this user and its not listed under users anywhere.

Aside from the SSD which is for the OS I have a standard HDD. How do I go about formatting both hard drives so they're completely fresh?
Will the W10 install automatically format my SSD and then it would just be a case of going into Computer and formatting the HDD?
since I have updated my dell laptop an inspiron 15 3000series to windows ten I cannot turn off airplane mode and thus cannot turn my wifi on. I have tried everything I found on the net from device manager to command prompt downloading new drivers and yet also to simple stuff like pressing the PrtScr key. I am desperate, I am an international student n the only way I can call my parents for free is via the net(i.e wifi) but it is not working.
View 2 RepliesI am looking to upgrade from Windows 7 to 10. I have a PC with Windows 7 and core applications on an SSD. For storage I have a 1TB HDD. I have heard that the clean install of Windows 10 is the way to go but I don't want to go through the trouble of backing up everything. I was wondering if I can do a clean install on just the SSD, so the hard drive remains unaffected, but the SSD is wiped and a clean Windows 10 is installed.

View 1 RepliesI am running Windows 10 Professional 64 bit. Whenever I set the option "Turn off the display" to "Never", it reverts back to the default "15 minutes". This is under the "High Performance" profile. I have never, since Windows 3.11, ever had a setting change itself back. I have tried to change it and restart. It will either revert upon restart or shortly after. It will revert back even if I do not restart.
View 2 RepliesSurface Pro (original 128GB model). Upgraded from 8.1 to 10. All that went well. I turned off a number of tracking items, wifi sense, and left Cortana off.
I am running into a couple of problems(?) and they may be related. I have my tablet set to go into sleep mode when I close the keyboard cover - original MS keyboard that I bought with the Surface. Even in sleep mode, my tablet gets and remains hot or overly warm to the touch.
I also noticed that it seems to be "eating" a lot of upload wifi band width (according to my TWC tool). I have 200/20 for wireless and the Surface is holding /using 5+ upload consistently. I have cycled it on/off and other than Windows 10 I only have MSO 2010, iTunes, Amazon Cloud Player, Kindle, Chrome, Google Drive and Dropbox installed.
The black screen occurs before login screen. It happens randomly. I have to move the mouse (haven't tried pressing keyboard) and it will show the login screen and windows will continue normally. On my device driver it shows only 1 display adapter that is NVIDIA GTX 970. My motherboard is H87-PLUS and its specs shows that it does have an Integrated Graphics Processor.
Tried installing Intel Graphics Driver but just shows 'This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software.' Tried disabling the lock screen too but its not working. Tried putting PCI-E as the default graphics in BIOS but its not working either. how could I prevent the black screen from showing up again?
After log on I get black screen,I can get into task manager.Is there a way to restart computer in safe mode from task manager new task?

View 3 RepliesI don't know what to do. I've tried everything. I am literally about to break down crying. I've been at this for six and a half hours now. I've completely run out of space on my 320GB hard drive, and I've been trying to clone to my new 1TB since I got home from work.
I've currently got windows 10 on a small HDD that I need to transfer to my newer, bigger drive. I do have multiple hard drive slots, as I need the OS on the big one. Don't ask why, it's complicated. Point is, I can't use the little one anymore and I need the OS as well as my files on the big guy.
I've tried 2 different cloning programs, each one taking ages to finish copying. The problem is, everywhere I go says the reason I have blackscreen when I try to boot is because I'm missing the 100MB hidden boot partition. But it's sitting right there.
I've tried booting with only the new HDD installed, tried 100 boot and BIOS settings, different slots, completely formatting the new HDD and starting over from scratch with the same program and a different one.
I've even tried booting from a recovery disk. That won't work either, and gives me the same black screen with a single horizontal bar blinking in the top left corner.
When I boot my pc sometimes I get a black screen. But by pressing ctr alt & delete I can log out, and then login and its then OK. I have reset my pc but its still the same.
View 4 RepliesIf you have an on board Intel graphics controller as well as an add on graphics card, windows thinks you have one more monitor connected than you actually have. so when windows loads its outputting the video signal to a bogus monitor.firstly wait long enough so the mouse cursor to appear when you move the mouse.(blank screen with a white mouse cursor).Then press the space-bar and enter your login password or pin (yes your doing this blind)
You should now be logged into windows.if the desktop dose not appear after 30 seconds then press WindowsKey-P down arrow twice and enter.
